Petit Larceny

Petit Larceny is probably the most common crime filed in New York State excluding traffic related criminal offenses. Petit Larceny is defined under section 155.25 of the New York Penal Code. It involves the stealing of something from another. It generally involves stealing property up to one thousand dollars. Thefts involving a value of over one thousand dollars will generally be charged as a grand larceny. Petit Larceny is a class “A” misdemeanor. A person convicted of Petit Larceny may be sentenced to up to one year incarceration.
